Andrew There is so much in there that is enjoyable, interesting and not what was commercially out at the time - in a good way. The preservation of the original "cassette-ness", without a redoing/working of the music makes the listening experience much more direct and allows the root ideas to have a more vivid presence. For myself that means I feel far more connected to the intentions in the music that over-production would normally tend to gloss over/render opaque. Favorite track: SCHOOLBUS GIRL.

about

I formed Carrillion in May 1983 for a school concert in my home town of Peterborough. This 20 track compilation contains all three cassette albums I produced with my friend Jason King on bass guitar.

Featured is a borrowed WEM copycat echo machine, the tape of which was so old everything you fed into it came out sounding completely warped. Occasional reverb is from the small practice amp we had which worked well on the Stylophone.

Inspiration came from unrequited love, naïve political views and mis-interpreted cultural signposts... the usual fare for teenage artistic ventures I s'pose!

'Sleepless' and 'Foggy Polaroid' feature spoken word and breathing (!) from my future girlfriend Rachel Laine.

Included in the download is a pdf. featuring artwork from the original cassettes, other relevant vintage artifacts and more information on the songs and recording techniques, PLUS a long-form printable compact cassette j-card.
